A year with Tor

Looking back at 2016

As a follow-up to my previous post (which described how and why I use Tor) let's now take a look back at year 2016 and squeeze out some interesting information out of collected logs.

So that's what this post is about: numbers, used nodes and a map describing my usage of Tor in last 12 months.

Monthly usage

The following table is a round up of how I used Tor last year.

Here are basic statistics in regards of how often the same IP address was re-used during the course of the year. Of course, the minimal amount of times an IP was used is once (there were 349 of these). On average, each IP address was re-used 22 times, whereas the median is only 5. The maximum of one IP address re-use is 841. 91 Tor IP addresses were used 100+ times and only 6 over 500 times.

From geographic point of view, Tor nodes were localized in 350+ different cities in 61 countries. There was only a single Tor node running in 21 countries and 9 countries had 10+ nodes. To my surprise, there were 3 nodes even back home in Slovakia.
